For the month of August 2025, the price of Forgotten Fate will increase to $10 USD, but all proceeds of the book during that month that would normally go to the author will be donated to RAICES, an organization that provides legal aid to immigrants facing persecution by the current U.S. administration.
"Since 1986, RAICES’ legal and social service providers have modeled what a humane immigration system could look like in the U.S."
After the month of August the price will return to its normal $5 USD price point, but the donation period will also end at that time.

Forgotten Fate is an expansive core rulebook for 5e fantasy. It is a full "5.25" style revision for the 5e fantasy system, a new campaign setting that blends magic, technology, and apocalyptic themes, and it features a new, tactically rich 5e martial class with dozens of maneuvers to choose from.
"With Forgotten Fate, Derek Garcia has created a bold and original world with a background story that feels like it should be a bestselling fantasy novel. This is a beautifully developed setting with so much to explore and love and fear and run screaming from as fast as you can because holy crap it is coming right for you."
-Alexander C. Kane, author of Dragon Heist, Scum of the Earth, the Andrea Vernon series, and the Orlando People series

First, Forgotten Fate is the title of a brand new 5e fantasy campaign world, Kenoma, a planet that was heading towards a fated “end of days” when an Elder Evil known as The Whisperer entered creation. The united forces of Kenoma’s gods and mortals defeated The Whisperer, but its alien influence drove much of creation inexorably insane. The world’s Overgod intervened in response, completely wiping the memories of all creatures, making the Kenoma of today a planet with a mere 50 years of known history. The truth of its past remains elusive thanks to the lingering influence of The Whisperer.
Kenoma is inspired by dark and surreal JRPGs like the Shin Megami Tensei series and other classics of the genre, along with “weird fantasy” and science fiction literature from authors like China Miéville and Phillip K. Dick. It is a 5e fantasy world that can be played with the 2014 5e rules, along with any supplements and third-party material. The world blends modern day technology with a high-magic setting, and it is rife with horrific monsters, political intrigue, cryptic mysteries, sinister conspiracies, and a looming apocalypse that heroes might avert, or even bring about.
Each of the core 5e fantasy classes receives a new subclass, for a total of 12 new subclasses. These subclasses are themed around the setting of Kenoma but can be used in any 5e fantasy setting. A new species is also added, the Orama, an eerie humanoid that may be linked with certain iconic aberrations, born eyeless, and gaining up to 11 phantasmal eyes as they age.
Second, Forgotten Fate showcases a brand-new martial class, The Weaponmaster. The Weaponmaster provides a more tactically rich alternative to classes like Fighter and Barbarian, making use of martial maneuvers that function closer to strength-based spells, where the spell focus is a melee weapon. Weaponmasters do not gain Extra Attack, but rely on maneuvers that enable mobility, offense, healing, and teamwork with other martial classes.
Those who missed the complexity and tactical decision making of 4e Fighters, or 3.5’s Book of Nine Swords, may find the Weaponmaster offers exactly what they were missing in martial characters. It has been carefully balanced to work alongside 2014 5e martial characters, not to outshine them. The Forgotten Fate core book includes 7 subclasses for the Weaponmaster, and 50 martial maneuvers.
Third, Forgotten Fate is a full third-party “5.25” style revision to the 2014 5e rules. It retains full compatibility with all existing 2014 5e fantasy classes and subclasses, spells, monsters, and adventure modules, first party and third party alike. Many of the core 5e Feats have been rebalanced, but players can use all their favorite 2014 5e classes and subclasses without any changes to their features.
As an alternative to the official 2024 5.5 revision, and other third-party products with a similar aim, Forgotten Fate is distinct in the axioms guiding its changes:
- More clarity to the ambiguous parts of the 5e fantasy rule system so GMs have a better framework.
- A clearer action economy than 5e, with a “Minor Action” that could be used to draw a weapon, search for traps, or analyze an enemy’s weakness.
- Simplified saving throws for player characters without requiring any conversion for existing spells or monster stat blocks.
- The “rules as intended” match the “rules as written” in Forgotten Fate, unlike much of 5e.
- Efforts to bridge the “martial – caster divide” help make the game enjoyable for all character types.
- All new rules and rule changes are modular, not linked, so the GM can pick and choose, if they wish, between parts of the Forgotten Fate rules and the original 2014 5e rules.
- High-level play is more approachable for GMs and players thanks to explicit wealth by tier tables, magic item costs, Imbued magic items gained as a character levels up, and rules for running low and high CR monsters against high-level parties.
- There are more incentives for roleplaying, backed by a revised Inspiration system that leverages a character’s Alignment, Persona, and Shadow.
- There is support for more than combat, with versatile and clearly illustrated systems for skill challenges and investigations.
- Forgotten Fate goes against the “rulings, not rules” philosophy of 5e with its clearly explained rules and examples. A GM is always free to disregard or change any rule at any time - they should not be forced to work with an incomplete, or ambiguous, rule set, however.
Purchasers are invited to join the Forgotten Fate Discord server using the following link: https://discord.gg/a39yBg5T
There, purchasers can provide feedback on the Forgotten Fate rules, the setting of Kenoma, and the Weaponmaster class. Most importantly, purchasers can share any remaining gray areas of the 2014 5e fantasy rules that Forgotten Fate has not already clarified.
A major goal of Forgotten Fate is to provide a 2014 5e compatible system where every reader will walk away with the same understanding of the rules, and where GMs are empowered to make rulings by choice, not forced to make rulings due to a half-finished, poorly explained rule set. Let us know which 2014 5e rules you find overly ambiguous, whether it’s a spell, a class feature, or a specific interaction of core rules!
