JourneyMon is building towards a crowdfunding campaign to release print and digital formats.

The world and characters of JourneyMon are brought to life by artist Juno "Crowva" Kurtin.

What is JourneyMon?

JourneyMon is a game about travelling with your friends, making new ones, and (of course) engaging in exciting monster battles. Though JourneyMon is directly inspired by monster taming/creature collecting video games, the design draws as much on the Saturday morning cartoons and anime that derive from them.

To evoke its themes and inspirations, JourneyMon works with an Episodic session structure that places collaborative world building front and center. The "Prologue" of every Episode invites players and the GM to create a brand new location and a "monster of the week"! As you play, you’ll populate your world with an encyclopedia of monsters unique to your table.

Mechanically, JourneyMon combines a familiar narrative system of genre-appropriate playbooks and moves with a monster battling system that emphasises environmental effects and flashy powers. While their monsters engage in combat, trainers might even tip the balance by exploring the arena or cheering on their friends.

Play Right Now!

The 32-page JourneyMon Quick Start Guide includes everything you need to run your first one shot game:

  • The basic JourneyMon rules.
  • 4 pre-generated player trainer playbooks: the Ace, the Rival, the Researcher and the Caretaker.
  • 10 monster powers to bring your battles to life.
  • A sample one-shot Episode of JourneyMon for 2-4 players: Mount & Manta. In this Episode, player trainers must avert a volcanic disaster at the Mon Loa holiday resort.
