Rock & Roar - Gnarly Bestiary Based on Classic Rock Is Adding Bonus Tracks!
Back the Zinequest Kickstarter for a book of monsters such as Twisted Sisters and Eyes Without a Face. Pick either the Shadowdark or the Old School Essentials version. Stretch goals are adding bonus monsters, magic items, and more at no extra cost!
Wouldn't it be fun to throw a few new creatures at your players based on classic rock, pop, and metal songs? Perhaps a roper-like ceiling monster called the Master of Puppets, corrupted nuns known as Twisted Sisters, a floating ooze known as Red Rain, an undead lord named the King of Pain, or a mass of eyeballs known as Eyes Without A Face.
Rock and Roar will have all of them and 50 more! The page has numerous samples and links to even more! Plus the video is a lot of fun (if you know 80s late night commercials).

The project offers two books–one with stats for Shadowdark, and the other has the same monster concepts and art but with stats for Old-School Essentials (OSE, a faithful B/X or early D&D clone). The focus is to make good monster concepts based on a song title or band name with just a couple of small homages. Only a few monsters lean in heavily to a song's lyrics or facts about a band.
There are enough creatures for a whole setting--in fact one stretch goal the project has already hit is a fun setting map with locations like Stairway to Heaven, Fields of Gold, Northern Town, That Hill (Running Up That...), and many more! And other stretch goals may add more monsters, magic items, and even mini-adventures!
The book format/size is A5–similar to the Shadowdark and OSE books. Each monster gets its own page with a backstory/ecology, stats and abilities, and charts of alternate powers or idea generators (like ways to replace a character’s eye if the Eyes Without A Face sucked one out). And the layout of the book is more interesting than a standard 1/4 page image in the corner and 2 columns of text–but not too distracting. Our Bricks in the Wall has the bricks integrated into the entire page and the Sledgehammer page's text is shaken.
Please 'sample' our previews and back for the whole album!
