Arc Dream Publishing Launches Public Playtest for The Black Company Roleplaying Game

Arc Dream Publishing is proud to announce the launch of the first public playtest phase for The Black Company Roleplaying Game, based on Glen Cook’s legendary dark fantasy series. This initial playtest phase runs for two months, from December 1, 2025 through February 1, 2026, and focuses on the game’s most essential core rules.

Participants in this phase will receive a complete introductory playtest packet, including:

• A 10-page playtest rulebook, featuring a cover letter and an overview of the structure and culture of the Company
• Six pre-generated Soldier characters, ready for immediate play
• A complete starter scenario, “The Summer of Riots”
• A one-page city map of Beryl to support the scenario

All playtest Game Masters and players are invited to provide structured feedback through an online survey, with access provided within the playtest materials. Arc Dream Publishing also welcomes Actual Play recordings of the playtest, with the request that all published APs clearly identify the game as a work-in-progress playtest, not a final product.

Future playtest phases will significantly expand the system, introducing full character creation, sorcery, mass combat, and additional advanced rules.
