I hate The Game Awards. I loathe it with every fiber of my being. I’m ambivalent towards award shows at the best of times, and the dead-eyed shill Dorito Pope — who, like a lot of folks outside the US, I hadn’t even heard of before TGA — represents everything that is wrong with the video game industry and influencer culture. An icon of unthinking consumerism, plowing forward hungrily, all sense of ethical and moral responsibility discarded in the name of FunTM.

At the same time, I love video games, and I have both a personal and professional interest in knowing what’s coming down the pipeline, even if it’s not going to be for another year or two. So, as I have done for years, I completely ignored the show itself, and popped over to Eurogamer the following morning for a no-nonsense list of trailers with informative blurbs.
