With simple d6 dice-pool mechanics and lovingly written and illustrated by Scarlet Song, Cottage Core Critters: A Cosy Critter RPG is an RPG about Critters forming strong bonds with friends and overcoming fears and worries in a world that feels like if Beatrix Potter shook hands and went on a fine spring picnic with Stardew Valley, Zootopia and My Neighbour Totoro.
Character creation is simple & intuitive with "subway-menu-style" choices for building your cosy Critter and only three base ability scores Cottage - for learned study or skill, Core - for communicating and matters of the heart & Critter - for the physical movement and abilities of your chosen critter. (Exactly what it says on the tin!)
Gameplay is focused on the collaborative story-telling angle of RPGs with mechanic inspirations drawn from games like Blades in the Dark, The Wildsea and Powered by the Apocalypse systems. For experienced Game Masters, the act of being a Cottage Core Critter Storyteller (GM) feels like the inhale on a cool Spring morning, kind, familiar but fresh and for beginner or young game masters, supporting materials on cosy Community world-building and NPC creation help you start telling the kinds of stories that leave you as warm as a fresh cup of tea.
If your looking for inspiration included in the book is the setting, "Falling Lief" which hosts a wide variety of Critters your players can establish bonds and make friends with and accompanying that is the introductory adventure "A Sweet & Unique Festival."
