Interstitial is a game about the connections between people, the impact of changing relationships, and the power of friendship. Gameplay is based around the Links System, representing your characters’ connections with others. As you go through your adventures in the game, you’ll mark down the people who matter to you in one of four categories- Light, Dark, Mastery, and Heart.

  • A Light Link is a friendship, a rival, a romantic interest, etc.
  • A Dark Link is an enemy, a hater, distrustful family member, etc.
  • A Mastery Link is a teacher, a student, an unwilling mentor, etc.
  • A Heart Link is someone you see yourself reflected in, someone who reminds you of someone else, someone you want to subconsciously be more like.

As you make your way through multiple worlds, these Links will become a patchwork quilt of all the people you’ve met, and you’ll remember why they were important to you. Mechanically, you spend them as a currency for rerolls, to activate moves, and as the stats you're rolling with. The people around you and the connections you make power everything you do.

In a lot of games you’ll make a character that’s an homage to a character you’ve seen in your favorite works. But in Interstitial, you will play directly as them. It’s not a character inspired by Danny Phantom, you are playing actual Danny Phantom. Interstitial directly pulls in the feelings of writing fanfiction with your friends, making your action figures fight, and all the other ways we were creative and silly with the things we loved when we were younger.

2E makes major changes to the original game including a total rewrite of every move in the book, an extensive game master’s guide, and enhanced ways to interact with Links. It also includes a brand new layout and a team of fantastic artists, with heavy hitters like the original game’s Shannon Manor, Paranatural’s Zack Morrison, Evan Stanley of the IDW Sonic Comics, and nine more fantastic creators who will be revealed over time.

Interstitial is a game that’s special to me, and I hope you give it a chance! Remember: copyright holders can’t stop you from playing pretend with your friends. If you don’t take the characters you love and tell better stories with them, who will?
