I have taught a lot of people how to play Magic: The Gathering. This fact does not make me an expert on either instruction or trading card games, but it has imparted a lot of advice on how you should not teach people how to play MTG. Even the company that produces the game, Wizards of the Coast, is constantly reinventing and repackaging onramps that are supposed to move people from mere cardboard collectors to full-on slingers.
