Cosmic Century Knights by James D’Amato & Andrew Mierzejewski is the perfect tabletop RPG for fans of ‘80s & ‘90s Shonen anime such as Slayers and Record of the Lodoss War as well as classic JRPGs like the Final Fantasy series. After a gigantic sword-shaped ship pierces into the heart of a planet, 100 legendary blades are scattered across the world. In CCK you wield one of these legendary swords, embarking on a fantasy adventure filled with creative problem-solving, exciting action, and intense relationships through serial adventures.

After some collaborative worldbuilding with the game master, you’ll set about with character creation. In CCK, players don’t just customize their characters, but also the blades they wield—choosing aspects from a series of robust tables by the author of The Ultimate RPG Series from Adams Media (an imprint of Simon & Schuster). Once you have your character and your weapon, you’ll venture forth to fulfill the desires of both in the face of terrifying antagonists.

Homecoming by Meghan Cross is an introspective RPG for fans of Gone Home, House of Leaves, and Fall of the House of Usher that requires neither preparation nor a GM. You play the eldest daughter in a lineage of eldest daughters, all of whom have vanished under extremely mysterious circumstances. Your mother is now the latest victim, prompting you to return to your childhood home for the first time in years.

In Homecoming, one or more players take turns exploring various rooms throughout the Braddock family home. Every turn, you and your fellow players will draw cards from a unique deck, with each suit representing either a room, supernatural occurrences, hidden secrets, or forgotten memories. How you choose to respond to these different elements will shape the entire narrative of your game, including whether you decide to face the terrible truth behind your family or leave them behind forever.

Artwork for Chuck, showing the feminine version of Chuck asleep on a desiccant packet.

Directly inspired by the classic manga Minami’s Lover, Chuck by Tyler Crumrine is a solo romantic comedy RPG about the turbulent relationship between you and your tiny fictional partner: Chuck. After Chuck suddenly and inextricably shrinks to a few inches tall, your already messy partnership quickly becomes even more complicated. Chuck is not necessarily a game about whether your fictional relationship will survive, but when and how it finally falls apart.

You’ll play out your doomed relationship by rolling dice, reading prompts, and writing in your journal. A game of Chuck is split into a series of days, with each day revolving around a new activity your tiny partner wants to do. How each day goes depends on the results of your dice rolls and how you envision their outcomes. Some days could be good, some bad, but either way, you and Chuck are going to eventually break up. The end of your fictional relationship is finalized by you, literally, ‘chucking’ your meeple-sized figure away as Chuck goes off to live their own life.

The crowdfunding campaign for Cosmic Century Knights, Homecoming and Chuck is now live on Kickstarter until September 26, 2025, where you'll be able to get any title separately, or you can get a free copy of Chuck by pledging for both CCK and Homecoming
