Soulslikes are kinda my thing. As a freelancing video games journalist, I was tapped to provide the hottest of takes on the genre, and reviewed plenty of pretenders to From Software’s throne. (Ironically, the only FromSoft game I’ve been paid to review is Armored Core 6.) The Dark Souls series is where my heart truly lies, and I will happily talk about those games until I’m blue in the face.
(DISCLAIMER: Yes, of course I know about Demon’s Souls. I’m sorry, Demon’s Souls champions, but it didn’t have the same cultural impact as Dark Souls. It’s the Wolfenstein 3D to Dark Souls’ Doom. Oh, it did that thing first, did it? Darling, I’m the author of a highly-regarded piece covering how much of the Souls DNA dates back to King’s Field. Shh, it’s okay.)
