Tribes in the Dark Now On Kickstarter
The reboot of Tribe 8, the classic post-supernatural apocalypse RPG, now powered by Forged in the Dark, is now crowdfunding.
After six years of development, the Kickstarter for the reboot of the Tribe 8 roleplaying game from Dream Pod 9 has launched. Powered by Forged in the Dark, this new edition brings the story of the Fallen to a new generation of roleplayers.
In Tribes in the Dark, you take on the role of one of Fallen — an outcast, banished from your Tribe and your home, in a broken world where scrapyard goddesses known as Fatimas rule and our greatest nightmares, in the form of the Z'bri, are given flesh. Your spirit broken and your dreams taken from you, your former family and Tribe consider you soulless and beyond salvation. But, they're wrong. Your dreams have returned, and with them, new hope for the future...and a prophecy that the Fallen are the Eighth Tribe, and humanity's true liberation.

Tribe 8 was first published in 1998 by Dream Pod 9. A supernatural post-apocalyptic fantasy RPG using the Silhouette system, Tribe 8 was a departure for the company best known for its science fiction mecha RPGs Heavy Gear and Jovian Chronicles. Featuring dream magic and spirits, an ambitious metaplot, and expansive lore detailing the world of Vimary, over 20 books were published in the original line as well as a second edition. Now Dream Pod 9 has made a new edition of this cult classic a reality.
The new edition combines the compelling setting of Vimary with Forged in the Dark's mechanics and focus on fiction-first play. Seven playbooks allow players to quickly create characters representing outcasts from each of the Seven Tribes. Tribes in the Dark's faction mechanics are designed to engage players in building the four Fallen factions into the prophesied Eighth Tribe, while navigating the treacherous waters of the setting's other factions. Player characters interact with dreams, spirits, visions, and omens to uncover the mysteries of the setting, and utilize Synthesis — a form of dream magic — to create fantastical effects. Vimary's setting and lore have been consolidated, rewritten, and updated to make it more accessible and provide new insights into its people and places. Lastly, there is guidance on running Tribes in the Dark, including player and GM practices and principles.
The Kickstarter campaign is funding the final production of the PDF and print book, including new art from Juan Ochoa, who created the stunning cover art. The team that has been working on Tribes in the Dark is excited to finally get the book into the hands of old Tribe 8 fans and new ones alike.
The past is dead. Your future begins now.
