New spooky podcast serial Welcome to Hole launches just in time for Halloween. The scripted comedy follows four hopeless monster hunters solving mysteries in the fictional desert town of Hole, Nevada. The twelve part series premieres on 29th October with episodes released weekly.

The show follows a ragtag team (which consists of a trucker with a penchant for conspiracies, an eight year old girl with superpowers, a vampire hunter trained at the Vatican, and a government man in black) trying to save their small town from monsters and magic - with mixed results. Co-creator Kate O, who describes the show as ‘Buffy meets Tremors’, says the series is intended to offer ‘pure fun escapism’.

While the podcast’s format is inspired by spooky procedurals The X Files and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the storyline and characters are based on a Powered by the Apocalypse campaign created by the cast using Evil Hat Productions' Monster of the Week playset. Co-creator Brendan Way explains further: ‘we took what happened on the table, tidied it up, then added some extra gags and heart’.

Each forty minute episode features talented voice actors and fully immersive sound design that puts the listener straight into the action. Kate, who served as the GM for the original game, explains the team wanted every episode ‘to feel immersive and rich. To be action-packed and funny. To transport you to this weird desert town crawling with monsters’.

The core creative team behind the show (Kate, Natalie Haven, Duncan Thompson, Sean Toole, Brendan) met through improv comedy and have subsequently played many TTRPGs together. They serve as both creators and cast, providing sixty voices for the show. Welcome to Hole is the group’s first scripted series.
