And we yearn for your responses.

We just launched a new podcast
One day, we'll hire an art director, till then it's just me and Canva.

Today, we're launching a new podcast, the Rascal Reading Club. It's a book club, sort of. In the off weeks from the Rascal Radio Hour, we're going to be going to read an RPG text and analyse it in an informal and conversational way. Well, I say we, it's just me for now. A solo show because it's finally time for me to Never Stop Never Stopping. It's in the same feed so you don't have to subscribe anywhere else. If you haven't, subscribe on the platform of your choice now.

For the first season called The Most Impossible Fun Thing, we're looking at anything that fits within the category of "GM advice". And for our first episode, I'm reading Warden's Operations Manual from Tuesday Knight Games. This book, part of the Mothership first edition crowdfunding campaign, is full of cool information and tailored advice. Let's talk about it!

But it's not just going to be me ideally — I'd like to hear from you. Like a proper book club, there's discussion questions. And if you write to me with your thoughts, I'll respond to them in second part of the podcast, the talkback episode. You don't even have to be a paying Rascal subscriber to participate — like the podcast itself, talking to me is free.

Discussion Questions

  1. Do you have thoughts about the Warden's Operations Manual? Do you have a favorite part that I didn't mention?
  2. Do you think that the Mothership GM guide should have more advice about running pre-written adventures? If so, is there something you would cut from the existing manual to keep it to 60 pages?
  3. Do you think there is a line where advice becomes so critical to the vision of play that it should be incorporated into the rules design at some point? What do you think about my statement that the core mechanic of the game is "underdesigned"?
  4. Are there Mothership adventure that plays with horror that feels "real" but isn't economic horror? More gendered or racialized horror, maybe?
  5. If the rules of Mothership point towards one question, is it "are you dead yet"?

If you'd like to participate in the discussion, you can write to us via email thomas@rascal.news or through the official Discord before Feb 3rd 2026.

If you're a member of the Party Member tier, you can nominate a book and decide what we discuss next. Check your email for a link to the form!
