While Trump and the courts continue to play tariff tennis, more small businesses are finding themselves faced with tough decisions — as we’ve seen over the past weeks, tabletop is not among the least of the industries affected. One segment that professionals and hobbyists have been watching carefully is the effect tariffs will have on games that were crowdfunded before the trade war began. On  June 4, Cephalofair, the US-based board game company responsible for massive legacy games such as Gloomhaven and intense resource management games such as Forge War, announced on Backerkit that it had laid off one of its staff members and instituted “50% furloughs” for many members of their sales and background operations team.

What this means is that affected folks have had their hours — and their pay — reduced by half. According to their announcement, this also includes the post’s author and COO of Cephalofair, Price Johnson. Underneath some rather impressive tracking of various shipping containers across four oceans, he explains that this is more like a pay cut, and he intends to continue to work as if he’s being paid at 100% of his salary.
