Just released! Secret Communion: Final Movements
A two-player TTRPG of the forbidden love between a god and a mortal, from Far Horizons Cooperative.
I'm writing to announce the release of Secret Communion: Final Movements, a tabletop game from the Far Horizons Cooperative. My name is Keith Asada, and I am the game's author. Secret Communion is a two-player romantic game about a god and a mortal engaging in a love their world deems heretical. The first version of this game was written for the #tittyRPGjam. This updated version has been expanded with new art by Carly A-F, new mechanics, and four new endings. Secret Communion is setting agnostic, and character creation involves randomly assigning two flaws to both main characters. Players are encouraged to provide color and detail to both elements over the course of the game.
Mechanically, Secret Communion is inspired by Microscope, by Ben Robins, and The Quiet Year, by Avery Alder. Confronted with prompts tied to the playing cards of a standard deck, players describe scenes where their characters overcome challenges to their relationship both internal and external. Between scenes, characters can introduce new worldly threats, explore their setting, and describe more intimate moments between their characters. An average game of Secret Communion lasts between two and three hours.
The flaws each character receives at the beginning of the game are the keys to determining how each game of Secret Communion ends. During play, players have opportunities to describe how their character has transformed their flaws. How many flaws are transformed and who those flaws belong to dictate which of the game’s four endings the players experience. The mortal character could ascend into godhood, joining their beloved in eternity, the divine character could relinquish their immortality to live a life with their mortal love, or the characters could experience one of the two tragic endings.
The PDF edition of Secret Communion: Final Movements is on sale now at the Far Horizons Cooperative itch.io, DTRPG, and RPG Trader storefronts. A physical edition will be available at Indie Press Revolution later in the year.
