Somanyrobots Games Rises Up with ‘Machines of Bone & Blood’ for D&D Fans
Fight the Necroindustrial Revolution in 'Machines of Bone & Blood', a new 5E expansion from Somanyrobots Games.
Somanyrobots Games, a roleplaying game company specializing in Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition (5E), announces the Kickstarter launch of its latest supplement, "Machines of Bone & Blood".
“Machines of Bone & Blood” is a player options book, introducing new classes and dozens of subclasses, alongside new species, spells, and items.
The book is set amid a Necroindustrial Revolution, an analogue to the technological leap at the start of the 19th century, with dark magic fueling new machinery. The premise is patterned on the Luddite uprisings of 1810s England, as the rising capitalist class replaced traditional artisans with factory labor.
“Machines of Bone & Blood” features two new classes, the Necromancer and the Abomination, each with new subclasses including the Soul Master, the Death Knight and the Slayer. It also contains new folk horror and industrial horror subclasses for every existing class, and offers over 100 new spells with a particular focus on necromancy, bone magic, and shadow magic spells. Players can also make and install necrografts, embracing the horror of the age in exchange for dark powers.
Founded in 2022, Somanyrobots Games is building on the success of "Songs of the Spellbound Sea”, the studio’s first Kickstarter in 2024 that was fully funded in the first 24 hours of the campaign launch. Continuing the pattern set in Songs of the Spellbound Sea, "Machines of Bone & Blood" will include vibrant mini-settings and page setting primers, with adventure seeds, key locations, prominent NPCs, and regional maps.
Founder and writer Ben Somers says: “The setting of Machines of Bone and Blood may be fantastical, but the struggle is very real. Desperate workers try to survive against a system intent on chewing them up and throwing them away. This is a brilliant premise to explore, very much inspired by Brian Merchant’s Blood in the Machine.”
Dungeon Masters will find new equipment types and dozens of magic items to tempt their players. More monsters are included, giving DMs twisted monsters and skeletal constructs to terrify their tables. The book also contains several mini-settings, self-contained regions that a DM can drop into an existing campaign or game world to tell necroindustrial stories.
Somanyrobots has a firm no-AI policy and is committed to innovation and quality with the creator community. They ensure all artwork is created by real artists. As with “Songs of the Spellbound Sea”, the company will release a large portion of the content under a Creative Commons license for easy reuse, demonstrating a strong commitment to strengthening the 5E creator community.
