Game Description

GRIDSHOCK Zero Edition is a standalone tabletop roleplaying game of superhuman resistance on the run in a warped world ruled by villains. This new rulebook includes everything you need to play. GRIDSHOCK is powered by Free League’s Year Zero Engine, the popular rules system behind games like Mutant: Year Zero, Invincible, Alien, and Terminal State.

Years ago, superheroes failed to save the world. The fabric of reality — the Grid — was warped. Civilization collapsed. Everything we believed in was overturned.

Now, the bad guys are in charge of what's left, but a new breed of superhumans called Vectors are rising. Wandering this ravaged world, righting wrongs wherever they find them.

Like the heroes of the past, Vectors use their powers to fight injustice. Usually, that means punching it in the face, or blasting it with laser eyes — and it turns out there are a whole lot of injustices in need of punching and blasting. But with the totalitarian state called the Supremacy in charge, you and your crew better work fast and hit the road before their Shocktroopers come for you.

Play Features

GRIDSHOCK Zero Edition throws tabletop RPG players into a superpowered struggle to restore hope to the ruins of a world its heroes failed to save. As Vectors, players fight back against the villain-ruled Supremacy, roaming from one broken region to the next before Shocktroopers can close in. Each stop on the journey brings a new flavor of dystopia, from the Orchard’s greenhouse surveillance state to the demon-haunted wasteland of the Sanction or the techno-undead plague zone called Deadside.

Built on a customized version of Free League Publishing’s Year Zero Engine, GRIDSHOCK keeps play fast, dangerous, and dramatic. Success is never guaranteed, and victories often come at a cost, but Vectors can push beyond the odds with special Grid Dice to pull off spectacular acts of heroism. Every burst of power gives the Grid Monitor new Shock Points to escalate threats, empower enemies, and hurl fresh complications into the crew’s path, building tension as you play.

The game smashes superhero action, post-apocalyptic survival, and indie ingenuity into something strange, kinetic, and ready for the table. Its world is rich in lore, but the setup is easy for new players to grasp. Playing GRIDSHOCK means interacting with unique characters and factions, exploring dangerous locations, and making hard choices, driving players to hit back against impossible odds and become the kind of heroes the old world never had.

GRIDSHOCK Zero Edition is also a visually striking project, featuring illustrations by acclaimed comics creators Simon Roy and Giannis Milonogiannis alongside breakout indie tabletop RPG artists Carlo Tartaglia/Grey Wizard and Steven De Waele, with more to be announced. Winner of Gamefound’s RPG Party 2026, the game carries forward the wild creativity of its zine roots while expanding into a complete standalone rulebook designed for long-running campaigns, explosive one-shots, and groups hungry for superhuman resistance on the run.

Meet VX2

VX2 is a small, independent TTRPG publishing operation run by two brothers with day jobs: Paul Vermeren, an academic librarian based in the Atlanta area, and Chris Vermeren, a graphic designer in Metro Detroit.  VX2’s signature is a mix of polished layout, strong graphic design, careful art direction, and precise information design focused on clarity and usability. VX2 brings that craft to inventive game settings that put fresh twists on familiar genres, combining the raw imagination of indie publishing with the care and finish of a complete, table-ready release.

GRIDSHOCK Zero Edition builds on that foundation. VX2 has already successfully crowdfunded two previous roleplaying games: Terminal State, a cyberpunk game powered by the Year Zero Engine that is now heading to print, and GRIDSHOCK 20XX, the earlier zine version of this game published by Exalted Funeral. The new Zero Edition expands GRIDSHOCK to a larger scale and a more established ruleset without losing the personal vision of the original.
