Playtesters Wanted for 2 Indie TTRPGs
A semitactical game of magical girls fighting the apocalypse and a XXX game of monster researchers at a fantasy frontier university.
Playtesters are wanted to help test early drafts of two indie TTRPGs, both by solo dev Niko _____. Both Sealed Pacts and Terra Philia are currently minimum viable prototypes intended for testing core mechanics. Details for each project and how to participate in playtesting are available below. Readers interested in these games but currently unavailable for playtesting are encouraged to add the Niko _____ Works website to their bookmarks or preferred RSS reader for future updates.
Magical Girls (and Other Genders) Fighting the Apocalypse
Monsters emerge from an oil-slick puddle to threaten bystanders. Black sludge floods a home and swallows the family inside. A creeping smog sweeps the streets, innocents resigning themselves to slow suffocation. Against these forces of Corruption stands a soldier armored in seduction and might. An outcast wielding everything and nothing. A student powered by autism and doom. The world is ending. The pact is sealed. What future will you fight for?
Sealed Pacts began life as a Lancer hack, but has reimagined its core to become a standalone game of magical girls fighting the apocalypse. Glibly summarized as "magical girls but it's mecha but it's coming of age but it's climate grief but make it all queer," Sealed Pacts combines a novel zone-based asymmetric combat system with the bones of Powered by the Apocalypse design. Aesthetically, _____ has committed themself to creating a game of hope in hard times and a closer recreation of the magical girl genre than is typically found in the TTRPG scene. Drawing inspiration from both shonen (Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, Symphogear) and shoujo (Pretty Cure, Cardcaptor Sakura) magical girl media, _____ seeks to ask players: how will you change to fight for a future you believe in?
Studying Monsters Hungry for Sex (Literally)
In the far reaches of Protera, a nexus of interdimensional magic rips open portals in the canyons of Terra Philia. The worlds on the far sides are rich in magical bounties, which the owners of Gateway University would love to exploit. Unfortunately for them (and fortunately for you), they need terabiologists: monster researchers with particularly unorthodox methods. If you care to join their ranks, you'll soon learn why every terabiologist is some form of pervert. After all, when everything in Terra Philia is fueled by sex energy, who needs conservative Proteran morals?
Terra Philia is a XXX TTRPG about horny monster researchers at a fantasy frontier university. Building off Savage Worlds: Adventurer Edition, it seeks to engage with sex, colonialism, and capitalist exploitation through play that's erotic, mundane, or both at the same time. In doing so, it draws on _____'s experiences as an asexual furry and kinkster, providing a unique perspective that's baked into the traditional verb-the-noun design. Players looking for a game that makes sexuality light-hearted, pragmatic, and integral to gameplay are sure to find something of interest in Terra Philia.
