'Soul Operator' is a solo ttrpg actual play and audio drama, created with the intention of highlighting amazing solo ttrpgs that exist in the space by presenting their gameplay as a fleshed out story.

'Soul Operator' is part of the 'Rusty Quill Network', along with other shows such as 'The Magnus Archives', '[Redacted]', 'Woe.Begone', 'Hollow Disciple', and 'Planet Arcana'.

This is an independently produced podcast that is currently being made at a loss. As this is the case, all actors will be paid $10/100 words, with a minimum of $20 total. All actors will be paid prior to episodes being released.

Season Two of the podcast is based on ‘Outliers’ by Samantha Leigh and features a lot of the themes from the game, including memory loss, mind control, rituals, and teeth, as well as horror typical themes. There will also be discussions of mental health/illness. While there will be graphic content, there will be no intentional mention or implication of sexual assault, racism, or homo/transphobia!

 This is a Non-Union project.

This project does not utilize or endorse the use of generative AI at any level. The NAVA AI Rider will be provided upon casting for peace of mind.

Recording Period: For part one, we are shooting for Fall - Winter, pending script completion and cast availability. Cast members may record shared scenes together or independently per their discretion. Live direction may be available on a case by case basis. A fully outlined schedule with expectations will be provided once the casting process is complete.

Length: 12 episodes, split into two 6 episode halves with a midseason break.

The first 6 episodes will be fully produced prior to release and will air on a biweekly basis, during which time production on the second half of the season will continue.

Audition Deadline: 11:59pm PST, October 1st, 2026 (Auditions may be reopened based on necessity.)

Please submit your recordings from your standard setup as we will be recording fully remotely. No specific specs required, but as good audio quality as possible with minimal background noise would be fantastic! Include at least 10 seconds of dead air at the beginning of your recording so that we can get an idea of what to expect. Do NOT edit your audio prior to submission.

Audition Format: Please slate your name, who you are auditioning for and record your takes in a AA BB CC format. Only read the lines associated with the character you are auditioning for.

Submit your auditions to this form raw, with no clean up including noise reduction, and formatted as .WAV. Please make sure to fill in the relevant fields on the survey and title your audio files as CharacterName_YourName.

You may audition for multiple characters, please resubmit the form for each character.

Applicants must be 18 years of age or older in order to be considered. Listed ages and genders are for reference, but not a requirement. However, certain races/ethnicities will be prioritized for specific roles.

OVERVIEW OF 'OUTLIERS'

Outliers is a single-player journaling game in which you play a research assistant trying to do their job in an absurd environment. Recruit participants, collect data, and perform miscellaneous tasks around the lab before  the study runs out of funds. Keeping your job shouldn’t be hard when your participants are clones, time travelers, and cryptids . . . right?

CAMERON EDWARDS (He/Him, Black, Mid - Late 20's)

The lab manager, CAMERON will be a predominant supporting character in this season. He is charming, confident, and incredibly competent. As the manager, he has his fingers in a lot of pies and is constantly multitasking. While is demeanor is often casual, when faced with questions about the strange occurrences in the lab, he will deflect. Whether or not he wants to share the information he knows is unclear. Sides Found Here.

ADARNA DAVINO (She/Her, Filipino, Late 20's - Early 30's)

The IRB (Institutional Review Board) representative tasked with keeping an eye on things around the lab, ensuring compliance with the ethical guidelines set by the IRB. She is blunt, straightforward, and seeming suspicious of TESSA's competency. While not entirely an antagonist, her presence can signal obstacles or other conflicts for the researchers. This is not with the hope that the research will fail, of course. The point of the IRB is to keep the research going while keeping it ethical, even if it may not feel that way. Sides Found Here.

COWORKER 2 (They/Them, Open to anyone, anywhere from 20s to 30s)

A researcher that primarily works in the wet lab. They never introduce themselves and seem to pop in and out of the narrative as they please, appearing at the most opportune moments. They are both a helpful colleague and frustratingly vague, offering advice and saying things that are just a little disconcerting. They seem to delight in being a bit mysterious, but whether their intent is malicious it is hard to say. Sides Found Here.

DIGITAL ANNOUNCER (Open to Anyone)

One of the several prerecorded voices heard throughout the lab. Primarily associated with the elevator and functions in the facility rather than machinery and equipment in the lab. Takes may be reused several times for consistency. Sides Found Here.

PARTICIPANTS (Open to anyone)

Due to the nature of the season, there will be many opportunities for extras in the form of PARTICIPANTS (or other bit parts). These will be short and usually span one scene, two or three at most. If you are interested in being considered for one of these roles, please forward us your vocal reel via the Google Form. If you have no vocal reel, please submit a conversational reading these sides.
