Secret Passages Announces A Tribute to John Blanche and Opens Call for Contributors
Following the death of legendary Games Workshop artist John Blanche, Secret Passages is producing a standalone zine of original essays, interviews, artwork and photography celebrating his extraordinary legacy – and is inviting writers and artists to pitch their own contributions.
In the aftermath of John Blanche’s passing, it was clear that we had to do something. It also had to be something pretty special.
Something richer, something weirder, something a little unexpected.
A lot like John’s own work, in fact.
Secret Passages is delighted to announce A Tribute to John Blanche, a standalone 40+ page A5 zine packed with original essays, in-depth interviews, decadent artwork, and intricate miniatures. We’re planning something that will take pride of place alongside your treasured stack of dog-eared 1980s White Dwarfs, your well-thumbed third-edition Warhammer 40,000 rulebook, and your battered copy of The Shamutanti Hills, its character sheet tracing-paper translucent from a flurry of frantic erasers.
John's career spanned five decades and countless worlds, inspiring generations of gamers, geeks, artists, and awkward outsiders in black T-shirts. Nobody can tell the full story of his work and impact, but Secret Passages has never really been about the full story anyway.
Instead, we're interested in the overlooked stories, the forgotten corners, and the unexpected connections.
If you'd like to contribute to A Tribute to John Blanche – whether that's an essay, an interview, an illustration, or something else entirely – email secretpassagesrpgzine@gmail.com with your pitch and some samples of your work.
All contributions are paid.
A Tribute to John Blanche will be available as a reward alongside Secret Passages Issue 4, coming Autumn 2026.
